Editorial Method

Every MfgWorkbench calculator is built to make the equation, unit handling, assumptions, and limits visible.

1. Define the engineering question

We separate distinct search and production intents. A calculator solves a specific relationship; a chart presents reference values; a guide explains when the relationship applies.

2. Use a source hierarchy

We prefer standards, manufacturer technical data, textbooks, and primary technical documentation. Shop rules of thumb are labeled as estimates rather than standards.

3. Check formulas and units

Equations are independently recomputed with known examples. Metric and imperial conversions are tested in both directions, along with zero, negative, missing, and out-of-range inputs.

4. State assumptions and production limits

Each tool explains what the result does and does not represent. Critical values must be confirmed against current tooling data, machine limits, material condition, workholding, codes, and qualified personnel.

5. Review, correct, and disclose

New and materially updated reference pages show their review date. Material changes trigger a new calculation check. Corrections are prioritized. Sponsored content and contributor relationships are disclosed, and paid placement does not guarantee a positive technical conclusion.

Authorship

Pages are currently published under the MfgWorkbench site identity. Named author and subject-matter reviewer profiles will be added only when those identities and qualifications can be verified; we do not invent credentials.
